From humble beginnings to becoming a trusted name in lighting solutions, here is a look back at our proud history. What started in 1989 with a small team and big ambitions has grown into Ireland’s leading name for complete lighting solutions.
Over the last four decades, Fantasy Lights has grown from a small, family-run business into one of Ireland’s leading names in lighting solutions. What started with a focus on Christmas lighting has evolved into a complete range of indoor, outdoor, garden and commercial lighting for homes, businesses and communities across the country. Here’s how our story unfolded.
In 1989, Fantasy Lights began its journey from our office, manufacturing and assembly premises in Kimmage, Dublin. With everything managed in-house, from product assembly to deliveries, we set the foundation for reliable, high-quality lighting solutions across Ireland.
During a recessive economic time in Ireland when young people were emigrating in vast numbers. Shannon Airport requested Fantasy Lights to design a Christmas theme to reflect the wide dispersion of our young people internationally who were returning home for Christmas. We designed, manufactured and installed from the gantry entrance to the arrival terminal in Shannon. Traditional Christmas designs, i.e. Santa sleigh and reindeers, swinging bells and the following international representations: Statue of Liberty, Eiffel Tower, Albert bridge London and Big Ben. It was a phenomenal success.
After the tremendous success of the Shannon Airport project people in other areas of Ireland like Munster decided to invest in Christmas lighting, this included Limerick City, Cork and Longford.
Fantasy Lights move to a larger premises in Dundrum. The opening of the new premises was officiated by Cel O’Reily (then president of the EIFI) and the late Fianna Fall minister Seamus Brennan, who always gave great advice and guidance to the company. The Fantasy Lights sign on our premises in Dundrum became known to all commuters going to and from South Dublin.
With the economy beginning to come out of the recession, Fantasy Lights begin to manufacture Christmas motifs for big household brand names on large advertising hoardings.
With the new century coming the economy went into a boom. Most cranes throughout the country were lit by Fantasy Lights in preparation for the big night of the millennium.
Due to Luas construction in Dundrum Fantasy Lights Moved its operations to Walkinstown where it has remained for the last 24 years.
Christmas Business takes off with most of the big towns in Ireland coming to Fantasy Lights for their lighting i.e. Killarney Town Lights.
Fantasy Lights install lighting on over 400 trees in the Dublin docklands area. The theme was greatly welcomed by the people of Dublin and the office workers in the Docklands.
Due to the massive growth in the business Fantasy Lights acquire new warehousing units in Greenouge.
Iconic giant Christmas bow installed on Clerys in 2013, one of Dublin’s most historic buildings. Proudly supplied by Fantasy Lights, this festive installation brings colour, creativity and seasonal cheer to O’Connell Street.
Fantasy Lights Design a colourised programable light system for Bishop Lucy park in Cork City where the lights responded to music. Thousand of Parents brought their children to this wonderful display. We also installed a new lighting theme on weirs & sons iconic store on Grafton Street Dublin.
Fantasy Lights designed, delivered and installed a high-tech Christmas lighting display for Dublin’s bustling Henry Street, one of the city’s busiest shopping areas. The installation featured illuminated cross street motifs spanning the street, creating an overhead canopy of festive light.
A standout feature of the project was the striking giant bow with the “Welcome to Dublin One” sign, welcoming shoppers and visitors to the heart of the city centre. This display combined modern lighting technology with traditional festive charm, adding atmosphere and excitement to the area during the busy Christmas season.
With the boom in the hotel industry, many hotels looked to upgrade their Christmas displays to create a memorable experience for guests and visitors. In 2017, Fantasy Lights worked with several well-known names, including the Brooks Hotel in Dublin, Longford Arms Hotel in Longford and Red Cow Inn Hotel in Dublin.
Fantasy Lights design and install a large Christmas Theme for Smyths Toy Superstore in London. They also installed lights on all the trees on O’Connell Street and on the Millennium Bridge for Dublin City Council.
In 2019, Fantasy Lights delivered several high-profile Christmas lighting projects across Ireland’s capital city and beyond. Our team installed festive lighting at Dublin Castle and Naas town centre, creating vibrant displays that brought the festive spirit to life.
A key highlight was the illumination of the Phoenix Monument in Dublin’s Phoenix Park with LED colour-changing technology, adding dynamic lighting to one of the city’s most historic landmarks.
Our team continues to deliver innovative Christmas lighting and large-scale displays that brighten towns and landmarks across Ireland. Recent highlights include the stunning Twinkly Pro Ship at Dun Laoghaire Harbour, combining dynamic colour-changing technology with a striking waterfront display.
We also provided festive lighting projections for the Hill of Slane, bringing this historic site to life with seasonal visuals. In Navan, our installation of a giant Christmas tree created a focal point for the town’s celebrations.
Dún Laoghaire has become a focal point for eye-catching festive displays, with Fantasy Lights delivering a range of installations to enhance the town’s Christmas atmosphere.
One of the highlights includes the giant illuminated Christmas bauble, a popular photo opportunity and striking feature. The iconic bandstand was brought to life with vibrant MaxiLED lighting, creating a colourful and energy-efficient display. Adding to the festive streetscape, a large cross street motif with decorative festoon lighting illuminated the town centre.
In 2022, Fantasy Lights delivered a series of high-profile festive and architectural lighting projects across Dublin, enhancing well-known locations.
In Dalkey, a giant gold Christmas bow wrapped around Barnhill Stores became a festive focal point, adding seasonal charm to the heart of the town. On Grafton Street, our team installed dynamic Twinkly Pro lighting on the Permanent TSB building, bringing vibrant, colour-changing effects to one of Dublin’s busiest shopping areas.
We also illuminated the National Aquatic Centre in Deanestown with colour-changing architectural lighting, adding visual impact to this landmark facility with energy-efficient, modern technology.
Fantasy Lights continued to deliver innovative Christmas lighting projects across Ireland, using Twinkly Pro technology to create vibrant displays in towns and cities.
In Dublin’s Temple Bar, Twinkly Pro lighting added festive colour and atmosphere to one of the capital’s most popular cultural and tourist areas. In Sligo, Twinkly Pro Christmas tree became a standout feature in the town centre, provide a modern take on traditional Christmas décor.
In Carlow, the Town Hall was brought to life with a Twinkly Pro Christmas tree and festive projection displayed on the building, transforming the area into a welcoming space for seasonal celebrations.
In 2024, Fantasy Lights delivered a series of large-scale lighting installations, transforming streets, buildings and public spaces across Ireland.
On Suffolk Street in Dublin, our Twinkly lighting technology was used to suspend colour-changing illuminated balls above the street. In New Ross, the Town Hall building was enhanced with colour-changing architectural lighting, bringing new life and visual impact to this historic landmark. In Dún Laoghaire, we installed illuminated, colour-changing signage, providing a bold, modern feature that enhances the area by day and night.
In 2025, Fantasy Lights delivered a series of lighting installations across Carlow, enhancing both historic landmarks and community spaces through light.
The Town Hall building was transformed with vibrant projected lighting, proudly displaying the Pieta – Darkness Into Light message in support of mental health awareness and community solidarity. Colour-changing lights enhanced the atmosphere by illuminating the trees, creating a dramatic and visually stunning landscape after dark.
At the historic Duckett’s Grove, the entire building was illuminated with large-scale projection lighting, highlighting the architectural beauty of this iconic landmark.
