Lighting Innovation for Ireland’s Premier Sports Facility
The National Aquatic Centre, one of Ireland’s largest and most prominent indoor sports facilities, has been transformed with a striking new architectural lighting scheme designed and installed by the Fantasy Lights team. Located in Blanchardstown, Fingal, the facility is home to a 50-metre Olympic-standard swimming pool, a diving pool, aquapark, leisure pool, and fitness centre, with seating capacity for 2,500 spectators.
To enhance the architectural presence of the structure, especially during evening hours and events, a dynamic colour-changing RGBW LED lighting system was introduced. The solution was tailored to meet both aesthetic and functional needs, using varied optics to accentuate the building’s form. Wide-angle optics were strategically installed along the top of the building to flood large surfaces, while narrow-angle optics were applied at the base to create focused uplighting and precise architectural highlights.

All fixtures are centrally managed via a single 8-zone controller, providing seamless control over colour sequences, brightness, and transitions. This system allows for fully programmable lighting effects, enabling the venue to adapt its appearance for special events, national celebrations, or corporate branding.
The installation demonstrates the Fantasy Lights Group’s expertise in delivering high-impact, energy-efficient lighting systems that elevate public and civic buildings through innovative design and advanced control technologies.
