Very little. The cost of running Christmas lights can vary depending on several factors, including the type of lights you’re using, how many lights you have, how long you keep them on, and the wattage of the lights.
To give you a rough idea, let’s do a simple calculation. Suppose you have a string of 100 incandescent lights that consume 60 watts in total. If you run these lights for 5 hours every evening for a month, and your electricity unit price is €0.45 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), the calculation would be:
Total cost = 60 watts x 5 hours x 0.45 cents = €4.05 per month
For the same scenario but with LED lights that consume 6 watts in total, the cost would be:
Total cost = 6 watts x 5 hours x 0.45 cents = €0.40 per month
As you can see, the choice of LED lights can result in significantly lower energy costs over time.
